Why is it called blue hair?

I always hear about old ladies having blue hair. Why is that? I don't want to sound stupid, but I've never seen blue hair on an old woman in my life, and it's always confused me.

Okay, it's true. They really don't have blue hair. However, if you look at the ladies with super white hair, like so many of them have, there is sometimes a tint of blue or pink (very subtle) because they are actually using hair dye. It's just a joke about the extra/unwanted color that comes along when people color their hair. Hope this helps. :)

Ask ANY hairdresser and they will give you the exact same answer as I did. Report It

A lot of elderly women get his temporary color ( a rinse) put in their hair. It's called silver lining. In the shop it makes the hair look a silvery gray. But in natural sunlight it looks more light blue.

i dunno.. some old ladies are color themed.. like the pink lady, and the blue lady, and the purple lady... the pink 1 lives by my old house. she even had a pink car! and blocked her driveway off with pink tape!
